Sleep is hugely important to your general health and well-being, and it’s the kind of thing you absolutely need to make sure you are getting enough of if you want to take good care of yourself. It also gives you more energy and allows you to feel better about yourself in general. To get more sleep, you need to first take a close look at your nighttime routine, to ensure that it is as good as possible. If you can do that, you’ll find that you get a lot more sleep in no time at all. Let’s take a look at what to consider here.

Exercise In The Afternoon

If you have some kind of exercise in the second half of the day, that is especially powerful towards making sure that you are going to get plenty of sleep, and it’s the kind of thing that you should certainly make sure you are focusing on. It can be as simple as going for a jog, or you might want to put in a session at the gym for real. Either way, it’s something that is going to help you a lot when it comes to getting more sleep.

Unwind First

Those who try to go straight to sleep after a long day without first taking the time to unwind are much less likely to get the sleep they need. You are much better off first spending some time really, fully unwinding so that you can let your mind and body relax, and therefore be a lot more likely to sleep deeply. Whether you put the TV on and watch County Rescue, or have a bath and read a book, it’s up to you – the important thing is to have some kind of winding-down routine.

Put Your Phone Away

While a little TV before bed can be helpful, looking at screens while in bed is not so much, especially your smartphone. You will find that having a no phones rule in bed is a great way to get more sleep – to get off to sleep quicker as well as to simply sleep more soundly – so this is worth trying, especially if you are someone who tends to look at your phone a great deal. You may find that just making this one change can make a world of difference to how you sleep.

Meditate

A lot of people swear by meditation, and it’s something that you may want to consider if you are trying to get more sleep in your life. Just ten minutes of meditation in bed at night is enough to help you get off to sleep and to sleep more deeply, so this is absolutely something that you should consider trying out. Plus, a regular meditation practice will lower your stress levels and that, in turn, helps you sleep even more. So it’s a really powerful practice that you should make room for if you can.
