If you have been anywhere on social media lately you’ve probably noticed that fragrance is having a moment. I’m not even mad at it because who doesn’t want to smell good? This year, I’ve decided that I will be upping my fragrance game so I thought I’d start at what I saw as the beginning.

While both offer unique olfactory experiences, niche fragrances have been gaining considerable attention and admiration from fragrance enthusiasts. Since I am trying to graduate from Ralph Lauren Romance and YSL Libre to something more complex I figured why not delve into what the enthusiasts are getting hyped up about. In contrast, niche fragrances offer a more distinct and unconventional olfactory experience, as they are crafted with artistic freedom and a focus on quality rather than mass-market appeal. In this category, you may find scents that don’t initially smell good, but once they’ve dried and settled they are amazing.

The question of whether niche fragrances are better than designer fragrances is subjective and largely dependent on what you like. Also, if you’re not prepared to spend $250+ on one bottle sticking with a designer fragrance is a good call.

Some people prefer the exclusivity and distinctiveness of niche fragrances (encore, bonojour c’est moi), while others find comfort in the familiarity and accessibility of designer fragrances.

These websites give detailed information about the brand, perfumes they offer, and sometimes even offer samples or travel-sized bottles for you to try before committing to a full-size purchase. I love venturing to the brand sites to see if they have discovery sets of their scents so I can try them out before committing to buying a full-sized bottle. Buying directly from the brand ensures authenticity and the opportunity to explore the full range of their fragrances.
